A little about me…

LaTrese Kinney, LMFT-A Marriage and Family Therapist, Emerald Therapy Group

LaTrese Kinney, MMFT, LMFT

Have you reflected on your past and wondered to yourself, “How did I get here?” Well, you are not alone! I realized most of my life experiences, good and bad have lead me to become a Marriage and Family Therapist.

It is my life’s desire to connect with people and guide them to a place where they can live an abundant life of joy, peace, hope, and most importantly, self-love.

Come to a safe environment where you feel free to express yourself while rolling up your sleeves to do “the work.” I will encourage you, cheer for you, and empathize with you while using a direct approach sprinkled with humor. I will join you where you are and walk beside you on your journey. The client that is most successful is the client that makes the conscious decision to put in the work to make real change.

Over a decade ago I moved to Greenville, South Carolina from Chicago, Illinois. I have a beautiful adult daughter and I am a proud grandmother. I enjoy spending time with both my immediate family and extended family on Sunday’s when we get together for family dinner. My hobbies include interior decorating for special occasions, traveling the world, reading paranormal novels, and watching movies set in the 18th and 19th centuries.

My Education, Experience and Focus:

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 15 years of experience working with a wide range of disorders and deficits. I obtained my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Converse College following a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from North Greenville University.

My specialties over the years have become clients with sexual trauma, anger issues, relationship conflict, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I have worked in the field of residential treatment of children with autism and adults with dementia & thought disorders.  I have vast knowledge of client assessment, evaluation, and development of treatment plans. I also have expertise in crisis intervention, family education, violence prevention and group therapy sessions.  My desire is to create a space where people can come to find hope, peace, and a better quality of life.
